July 17, 2015 – John 8:53-54

John8-53-54Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets died! Who do you make yourself out to be?” Jesus answered,“If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’ John 8:53-54The humility of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gives us much to think about.  As ‘grabbing glory’ has become a business in marketing, in the competition for the top rung in business, entertainment and sports, and self-glory through the acquisition of the latest technical gadget or ownership of things.  How can we step away from the culture that grasps at our very souls? Can we learn from Jesus?  Yes!  When we do and say the things that are pleasing to Jesus, as He has taught us, we, too know that God is pleased.  He will not leave us alone.  I bow to God’s authority.  When we have the heart of a servant and serve others…asking nothing, we will be lifted up in many ways.  We will not seek self-glory, but the glory of God.Along with a servant’s heart is the spirit of thankfulness and joy.  In giving to others, we are blessed beyond measure.  When all that we do is in the name of Jesus, He receives the glory. So Jesus said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.” As he was saying these things, many believed in him. John 8:28-30
