July 11, 2019 – John 14:23-24

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them. Anyone who doesn’t love me will not obey me. And remember, my words are not my own. What I am telling you is from the Father who sent me.” John 14:23-24.

As I read these words, and look around my house, I wonder if there is room for Jesus to live here?  No matter how our house appears to the world, it is the love in our hearts for Jesus that makes room for Him.  Verse 21 makes it clear. Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.

As a child, I read Revelation 3:20.  Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” I didn’t realize Jesus wanted entrance to my heart. My first thought was to clean the house. I didn’t realize that an obedient and loving heart allows God entrance and He cleanses my sin.

What a glorious gift our God gives, His Peace.  And the Holy Spirit who teaches me.

Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free…I love you, Lord Jesus,  is my daily prayer.

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:26-27.
