January 12, 2018 – Psalm 119:17-18

Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. Psalm 119:17-18.

“God is good. All the time!” We often heard these words from those praising God. Yet we never hear the ‘why’.  In this scripture we hear a plea to God encompassing the Why.

The WHY God is Good, comes from being able to live and obey His Word.  How can we obey, unless we understand His Truths. And we pray, Open my eyes, our heart, to see His truths. Jesus told him (Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6. The next verse tells us if we know Jesus, we know God. “If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know him and have seen him!

If we know the heart of Jesus, we know the heart of God. Knowing and doing God’s commands to love are two different things. Luke 10:22 – “My Father has entrusted everything to me. No one truly knows the Son except the Father, and no one truly knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it. James 4:17.  As a young girl, practicing the piano was often without ‘all my heart’. Now I am thankful Mom continually encouraged me to practice. My prayer is to have understanding and obey Him, and practice His way of love with all my heart.

Teach me your decrees, O Lord; I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Psalm 119:33-34.
