Happy Anniversary! #56
We made it. Just 56 years ago we made it through the wedding and the reception. We were eager to get away and begin our life. And then it all began. As the years piled up, the memories followed after. Memories that come from living together and sharing.
We began blending our lives together with the help of Jesus. Each succeeding year brought new ‘stages’ and challenges, but always we loved each other. Four children – Dan, Paul, Tim and Anna came to our house. So many memories of our time with them float through our hearts. Then all four of them married and brought twelve grandchildren to us. And now we have five great grandchildren. We are rich beyond measure.
How do we celebrate? Visit by various means with our children, though they are in four different states, and enjoy our time together. We visited the book store, our favorite place to visit. There we found …. well…..books. This evening will find us in our places with His and Her laptops. If we look rather startled and laughing, it is because we didn’t know how to set the camera (had to read the directions – online) or when it would flash. (We have about 4 pictures of Ed, and one of me trying to figure it out.)
And did we eat out? Well, yes, sorta. We went to our favorite Pizza place and took home pizza. Once it was I-Hop, once Red Lobster, or Sonic, it doesn’t matter where, as long as we are together.
Our love has grown. I wrote a letter to my Mom once about how much our love had grown in the six weeks we had been married. I couldn’t understand Mom’s reaction. She laughed. Now I know why. Real love doesn’t kick in until life happens. Our granddaughter thought the most difficult year, their first, is behind her and her husband. When you count the blessings rather than the hard times, the years of marriage sail by on smooth water. It is when you count each ripple or wave the time together becomes dreary and long.
Another way that we found joy was doing things together. In the 80’s we began studying computers together. We found support and encouragement working together. Our very favorite thing to do is talk about our family that God gave us.
Always we find joy in worshiping and praying together, and with our church family. God is good, and we are blessed, so blessed! For fifty six years!
