God Is Holy
‘Since
it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy!”’ I Peter 1:16.
it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy!”’ I Peter 1:16.
Three words, God is Holy sit in my mind day and night. It is one
thing for God to be Holy, but how can I be Holy? As I contemplate this
impossibility, I realize I cannot do this on my own. And even then, I fail, even
with God’s Presence and His Help.
This holiness begins and continues rooted in His steadfast love.
My two brothers and I argued one summer while playing in the driveway. We
continued on and on. Little did we know Mother could hear us. Mother came
outside and said, You don’t know how it hurts me to see my children fighting
and angry with each other. “Since I love all of you, how can you fight
with each other and call each other names?”
Remembering, I wonder if our Father in Heaven, who loves all His children weeps
as sees the children He created and loves dearly, angry with each other. If we
are to be holy as God is holy, surely, we should love one another.
Delight has become one of my favorite words. Psalm 37:4, Delight
yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
This delight is not twice a year, or once a week of delight.
This delight goes much deeper. It is our delight as we
constantly satisfy our longing for the words from His Word that satisfy.
How is that possible when there are so many things in the world we substitute
for His Love? The world captures our minds and our hearts. How can we
then love others? How can we be pure in living a holy life each day?
Put on! And never try to bury His love. I often hear the phrase, ‘I
love you more!’ The ‘more love’ can only be from God himself!
Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate
hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with
one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each
other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians
3:12-13.
These two verses lay before us with the command to Put On! For we are
God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved before the foundation of the world. Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in
Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as
he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should
be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He
predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus
Christ, according to the purpose of His will. Ephesians 1:3-5.
Words spoken in haste and anger should never leave our mouths. When “Be
still and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be
exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10.
“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be
silent.” Exodus 14:14. These are the words Moses spoke to the
Israelites when cornered against the Red Sea. There is no greater
Warrior than our Father God. If He can name the stars and hang them in space,
and create complex beings and plants, why do we doubt His ability to keep us
from harm?
Some people try to deny God exists. Yet, without Him do not have
life. He provides each breath we breathe. He provides good work for
us to do. He chose and loved us before the foundation of the world. He provides
the food we eat. He designs each flower that grows. He disciplines us and
provides the weathermen cannot predict.
God provides the way of redemption through the death, burial, and resurrection
of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for
I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls. Matthew 11:28-29.

In my
Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you
that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again
and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be
also. John 14:2-3.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have
loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down
his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command
you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not
know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that

For
your name’s sake, O Lord, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Who is the man who fears the Lord? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear Him and he makes known to them his covenant. Psalm 25:11-14

In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been
predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according
to the counsel of His will, so that we who were the first to hope in
Christ might be to the praise of His glory. In Him you also, when you
heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were
sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of
our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the
praise of His glory. Ephesians 1:11-14.
