February 9, 2018 – Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Whom do you trust, whom do you depend on when you need help? Or do you subscribe to being someone who needs no one else?

One Sunday evening, I learned a lesson in humility, and realized what a ‘know it all’ I was.  Mother and I played a piano duet, and proudly I walked off the stage when we finished. I slipped on the stairs, and make a loud ‘ker-plop’, landing on the bare floor. The scripture, Pride goeth before a fall, flashed into my mind, as I tried to crawl to the front bench to sit incognito.  My mind did re-runs of my fiasco.

Although we live in a culture that values the ‘do it yourself’ philosophy, we need to fear, believe, and trust in God. He is our creator, He knows our heart. God sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sins.  There is no other way to live peacefully but to fear the Lord and turn away from evil, yes, run away from evil.

The beautiful promise at the end of this scripture — healing for our bodies and strength for our bones…is ours when we turn to our Lord, and run away from evil.

What is evil?  Anything that is not kind, loving, forgiving, peaceful, and does not honor our Lord God and is not His will.  Why should we turn from evil? He made us and He chose us.

Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Colossians 3:12.

Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8.
