“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8Long ago, as a teen, my job was to plant green onions in the garden. This was a monotonous ‘un-teen’ job. A neighbor girl came by and after watching awhile, said, “You keep on keeping on…”In this portion of the Sermon on the Mount, this is what Jesus asks of us. Keep on, keeping on…asking, seeking and knocking…keeping on. What does this mean? When you look for a treasure, you are sure that it will come to pass and you keep on looking for the treasure. The Lord we serve is faithful. The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep his covenant and obey his demands. Psalm 25:10. Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Psalm 36:5.The Lord God has been faithful in his love, his care, and He is consistent in all that He says. He deepens His Word when He sent Jesus to the world because He wants us to have the ultimate joy of a life with Him. He teaches how we shall live in this life in humility, trust, truth and love. As we see discordant lives in this world spreading darkness, we live in the way God set forth – in love that leads to life.Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12.Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12
