February 22, 2018 – Galatians 3:12-13

This way of faith is very different from the way of law, which says, “It is through obeying the law that a person has life.” But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Galatians 3:12-13.

Breaking a law can be done through ignorance, anger, or determination to place ourselves above the law.  Jesus went through heart-deep pain, by allowing himself to be crucified for each one of us.  Could He have said, no more? Yes!  So why?  One word.  He loves each of us so much, and He forgives.

How much do you love anyone? Enough to die for them?  This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.  There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command. John 15:12-14.

I knew there was a catch!  What are the endless list of commands Jesus requires? Amazingly, there are just two Jesus requires! Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39.

What grows love for others in us? The fruit of the Holy Spirit? Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. (Galatians 5:22-23)  What fruit are you producing in the Name of Jesus?

Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:14.
