February 1, 2018 – Matthew 7:25-25

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”
Matthew 7:24-25.

Who is our Rock?  I Samuel 2:2 says – No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.  What does it take to move a mountain-sized rock? Would you try moving such a huge rock?  For God, who created the huge boulders, it was nothing to move mountains.

Have you heard anyone say, “Steady as a rock”?  They mean we can depend on that person, for he doesn’t change.  This is what Truth is – Jesus, never changing!  When we build our lives upon Jesus, our faith in Him never wavers.

The Children of Israel were saved from slavery in Egypt by God.  They traveled for forty years in the wilderness, led by God.  I Corinthians 10:4 recounts the time the spiritual rock traveled with them. No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

Our Lord God does not ‘make’ us choose Him. He made the world we live in. He  warns us when we think we know what is best, and we choose not to follow Him and obey His commandment to LOVE Him and one another.

The consequences are described in the last two verses. We will go through storms… and we will collapse with a mighty crash.  Joshua said, “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

“But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” Matthew 7:26-27.
