December 30, 2019 – Psalm 98:1-2

Oh, sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous things! His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known His salvation; He has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. Psalm 98:1-2.

Two days left in 2019.  Filling them with praise to our Creator seems a fitting way to end this year. Then I read further in this Psalm and know the joy of the Lord.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who dwell in it! Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together. verses 7-8. Suddenly, I hear the lyrics Julie Andrews sang…The hills are alive with the sound of music, With songs they have sung for a thousand years…

Where does joy and gladness come from, and why?  In the beginning, there was darkness and God said, Let there be Light.  Jesus came and exclaimed, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12.

Because of our Father God’s steadfast love and faithfulness, He has given us salvation in Jesus Christ. Psalm 27:1 gives us this assurance. The Lord is my light and my salvation, of whom then shall I be afraid?

Wait for the Lordbe strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!  Psalm 27:14.

And again I say:  Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!  Psalm 98:4.

He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:3-4.
