December 28, 2017 – Luke 6:30

Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back.  Luke 6:30.

The Golden Rule conjures a measuring of motivation and the question, Why give? Does giving have strings attached, to jerk us into loyalty or an anticipated ‘pay-back’?

We begin life focusing on our needs, wants, with an ‘it’s mine’ mentality.  Sometimes, we never grow out of this mindset.

Why give?  What is the greatest gift ever given?  What is the greatest gift we can give? It is simply LOVE.  Jesus said, This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. John 15:13.  How did Jesus love?  He gave us a true definition of His kind of love in the very next verse – There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  And He did.  He died on the cross for us and was raised from the dead.  Jesus is alive!!!  He awaits us.

One of the first verses that tells the story of Jesus and His Great Love and His ultimate Gift is described in John 3:16-17.  For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.

The Gift of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ, is the Gift that keeps on giving.  This gift from Jesus has an ‘ever-after’ guarantee!  This guarantee of living forever in His perpetual Love, Joy,  and Peace is ours because He teaches us to Love!

Do to others as you would like them to do to you.  Luke 6:31.
