December 22, 2017 – Genesis 28:11-12

At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. Genesis 28:11-12

When we need sleep, it is a time God may speak to us in dreams. Jacob was not an exemplary young man, he carried deceit in his heart. Genesis tells us the twin boys Rebekah carried, struggled within her womb. God informed Rebekah she carried two nations  within her womb.  One people will be stronger that the other, and the older will serve the younger. (Genesis 24:22-23).  Esau loved hunting and the outdoors.  Jacob enjoyed spending time with his Mother and cooking. Through deceit, Jacob gained the birthright, although it belonged to the firstborn, Esau.
The dream Jacob had that night renewed the covenant first given to Jacob’s Grandfather, Abraham. God is faithful and glorified through our belief in Him and our faithfulness to Him. John 1:14 – So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.  And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.  Colossians 3:23-24.  Sing a new song to the LordLet the whole earth sing to the Lord! Sing to the Lord; praise his name.  Each day proclaim the good news that he saves. Psalm 96:1-2.

At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Genesis 28:13
