December 16, 2020 – Luke 2:8-10
And in the same region, there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:8-10.
In John 10:11, Jesus teaches, I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. What does a good shepherd do? They were charged with the care of their flock. They were in the same region, near the temple in Jerusalem, where perfect lambs were needed for sacrifice.
David gave a vivid example of a shepherd’s responsibility.. The Lord is my shepherd; shall not want. He makes me lie does in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Psalm 23:1-2.
“Fear Not!” These shepherds listened to the message, they worshiped and told others. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments. Psalm 119:176. O, Lord, this is my prayer! In the Name of Jesus, my Shepherd. Amen!
And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!” Luke 2:10-14.
