And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.” So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. Genesis 6:21-22Noah was quite a guy! He was an old man with three sons, Ham, Shem and Japeth. There are so many questions you might ask about Noah. Why did he obey God? Where did he find all the wood to make the ark? How long did it take for Noah to build the ark? Did Noah have a tall ladder to reach the top of the boat? Did Ham, Shem and Japeth help their Dad, or did they play video games? What did Noah do when people made fun of him for building such a big boat? How could the ark hold so many animals? How long would it take to gather all the animals and the food? Why did Noah trust God?What would have happened if Noah didn’t follow God’s instructions? Would the ark fall apart in the flood? Why did they have to wait for 7 days before the rain began? Why did God choose such an old man to follow his instructions?I know you have questions, too. When I read this verse from Genesis 6, I know why God chose Noah to build the ark. This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. God knew that Noah would obey Him. Noah was righteous and walked with God. Because of Noah trusted God, Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives were saved from drowning.Have you ever wondered why it is important to obey our parents? God is teaching us to be like Noah and obey Him.Noah was 600 years old when the flood covered the earth. He went on board the boat to escape the flood—he and his wife and his sons and their wives. With them were all the various kinds of animals—those approved for eating and for sacrifice and those that were not—along with all the birds and the small animals that scurry along the ground. They entered the boat in pairs, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah. After seven days, the waters of the flood came and covered the earth. Genesis 7:6-10
