I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life. Psalm 42:7-8As I write today, rain is cascading from heavy clouds in the sky.  Explosive thunder heralds its life-giving presence.  And I give thanks.  And then I read these verses and know that life for King David was filled with tumult and his life’s stormy waves threatened to engulf him.Yet, he saw the water as the Lord King’s unfailing love pouring over him.  Whenever life and death waves threaten, I know that Jesus is in control and guides my ship.  Jesus can calm the wind and the waves.  All I need to do is praise him, singing his songs through pain-filled nights.  Praying through tears to God who gives me life.  I pray for peace.Peace, flowing like a gentle river through my soul.  And righteousness that rolls over me like waves in the sea.  How lovely are the words of God.  I give thanks for the joy and encouragement that comes from every reading.  I know that my Redeemer lives!This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow.
Oh, that you had listened to my commands!
Then you would have had peace flowing like a gentle river and righteousness rolling over you like waves in the sea.
