John6-58I live because of the living Father who sent me; in the same way, anyone who feeds on me will live because of me. I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will not die as your ancestors did (even though they ate the manna) but will live forever.” John 6:56-57Bread that comes down from Heaven.  The staff of life.  How often Mom used her trusty aluminum dented bowl to knead down crusty loaves of rye or whole wheat bread.  The aroma of bread baking never failed to make my mouth water and rejoice as I grew up.  The bread of life.Dad told us the story of the Children of Israel, traveling in the wilderness, so hungry.  God gave them Manna, with the dew of the morning, bread like Coriander seed.  This Manna sustained them in the wilderness.  They trusted God to feed them. Suddenly, as I read the verses above, I understand. The Manna God gave the Children of Israel is a picture of the Word of God, the Good News that Jesus Christ is our Manna that feeds us, sustains us and we will live forever if we feed on every word.Jesus is the truth, the life and the way.  He gives living water.  He is our Manna.  The prophecy of John in Revelation continues the story of manna……the bread of Heaven.“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.” Revelation 2:17
