August 10, 2021 -I John 5:1-3

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of Him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey His commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.  I John 5:1-3.

Believing and obeying His commandments is how we prove we are children of God. That takes a lot of love. For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think. Romans 12:3a.

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  Matthew 22:39b. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37.  These are the two commandments we are given.  When our God dwells in our soul, our heart, and our mind, our faith begins to lead us ever more near to Him.

O, Lord my God, help my thoughts of my mind dwell on You, strengthen my faith, in You and your Son Jesus.  Fill my heart and soul with Your Love, that I may love others with abandon.  I pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

At the transfiguration on the mountain, these words were heard by Peter, James, John, Moses, Elijah, and Jesus, “a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”  Matthew 17:5.  Jesus came to give His life because He loves us.

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? I John 5:4-5.
