August 1, 2018 – Psalm 31:19
How great is the goodness You have stored up for those who fear You. You lavish it on those who come to You for protection, blessing them before the watching world. Psalm 31:19.
Goodness is what we long for in this life and plenty of it. Goodness can have many meanings and usually has to do with food. In today’s world, good includes technology, appliances, the latest clothing, up to date furnishings in the best house.
And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:10)
My Grandfather Suderman looked forward to a good wheat harvest each summer to feed and care for his family. Grandmother Suderman cooked on a wood stove and the cellar stored perishable foods.
The Lord’s Prayer in Matthew (6:10-13) gives God’s Goodness for us. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
God’s Goodness feeds the body and the spirit. We can hide in the shelter of His constant Presence every day of our lives on earth. In the final harvest, Jesus brings us home. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:3)
Our song continues in Him, For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
