January 30, 2017 – Genesis 17:1

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.” Genesis 17:1

Abram’s life had not changed for ninety-nine years. He had no idea of what would happen this day when he woke up.  The name he was known by for ninety-nine years would be lengthened to Abraham.  Abram is a Hebrew baby name, meaning ‘High or Exalted Father’.  The name Abraham reveals he would be the father of the Hebrew nation. The Person revealing this to Abraham identifies Himself as El-Shaddai meaning Almighty God. What was Abraham’s first response?  He fell face down on the ground.  Have you considered how you will react when you come face-to-face with God?  I have. At first, I felt fear and now I just think love and confidence to trust Him! This truth gives them confidence that they have eternal life, which God—who does not lie—promised them before the world began.  Titus 1:2.Truth – that elusive entity in our Lord God and His Son, Lord Jesus.  How our souls long for truth!  A humble heart is just the beginning of a happy life.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11.

At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him, “This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham, for you will be the father of many nations. Genesis 17:3-5
