The Thesaurocity of God’s Names

In the beautiful
moment between dreams and waking, this word came to me….the many names of the
One God, the I Am that holds our
lives in His Hands.  The One Who gives us
breath. The Thesaurocity of God.
 Our Creator, the Great Giver

and yet THE God.

I Corinthians 8:6
Each name of God in
The Word of God, The Holy Bible, gives us a way to understand the true nature
and character of our Lord God.  He meets
every need we have. In Leviticus 24:16,
Whoever blasphemes
the name of the Lord shall
surely be put to death.
Hebrew people were afraid to say
God’s name aloud, for fear that they would blaspheme His name.
The personal name
God reveals to us is YHWH (Hebrew) and denotes the omnipotence of God.  Vowels were added to the Hebrew word…Yahweh,
or LORD, Master. Jehovah. Yahweh is linked to Exodus 3:13-15 – when God spoke
to Moses.
Then Moses said to God,
“If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers
has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to
them?”  God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of
Israel, ‘I am has sent
me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel,
‘The Lord, the God
of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob,
has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be
remembered throughout all generations.
Just as God is I Am that I Am, Jesus is “I Am”:
I am the Bread of Life –  John 6:35
I am the Living Bread – John 6:51
I am the Light of the world – John 8:12
I am One that bear witness of Myself –  John
8:18
I am the Door of the sheep – John 10:7, 9
I am the Good Shepherd – John 10:14
I am the Resurrection and the Life – John 14:6
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life – John
I am the True Vine – John 15:1,5
And lo, I am with you always. – Matthew 28:20
Which of these
names speak to my needs now?  Which is
the most important to me at this moment?
It goes without saying that I understand that God is our I Am that I Am, the one we turn to in
prayer and adoration.  And I look at the
list before me, which is God in this season of life?
In comparing the names/attributes of Father God and his One
and Only Son, Jesus, I see that both are Shepherds.  They are Shepherds of the souls on earth who
recognize and live for them – the Holy Ones.
Jesus is the Door of the sheep.
He is the way and the truth and no man is saved except through Him.
The Shepherd, Peace, the
Healer, the Provider speak to me most.
In my search to know God and increase my faith in Him, I find that
indeed, He is all I need.  When I search
The Word of God, I find many promises that speak to my heart.  In the midst of trial and sorrow God speaks
most eloquently, or do we hear more clearly?
After I read what I have written
to this point to my husband, in depth of dementia, he begins praying, arms
raised, and speaking of the angels he sees in the beautiful valley, a part of
Heaven, God sends.  God’s Word speaks to the
Spirit that lives within him.  I see a
part of my husband I have never seen before, the innermost spirit being, and I
praise God.  I know that despite the growing
loss of short-term memory, he is in touch with God in the deepest way.  The dementia has erased barriers of the world
to his faith and trust in the Sovereign God.
This is his world in which he lives.
There is no way I will take this from my husband.
My adoration and praise grow
ever more strong as the reality of God becomes more clear.  Do I believe?
Yes.  Do I have faith that God IS the I Am that I Am, all powerful and all
knowing?  Yes.  Again and again, I praise Him.  He is my Sustainer.  I know there are more ways, and each day, He
will give me more.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed
by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will
of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
Come to me, all
who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from
me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls.  Matthew 11:28-29
Bless those who
persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice,
weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty,
but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one
evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
Romans 12:14-18
