Our Awesome God!
After reading a part of Crazy Love by Francis Chan, I checked out the video,
“The Awe Factor of God”. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpChZxPfa-c)
The immensity of the Universe created by God is presented in perspective of light years, Two hundred million light years away we see many galaxies, and buried in this immensity is the Milky Way – a cluster of stars. Within this cluster of stars, our earth is found. I am not a scientist, but this video gives me the beginning of understanding of how inconsequential we are without God’s Love. His awesomeness surrounds us.
This tiny speck in space where we live our even smaller lives suddenly take on a different perspective. Truly, Our God is Awesome is an understatement. For even though our world is so small, God created this world for us. He create such immensely complicated systems that man is unable to understand all its wonder.
He created our body…and recently a friend sent this email telling some of its complexity:
Heart – pumps approximately 2000 gallons of blood through its chambers and beats more Than 100,000 times to achieve this incredible feat.
Lungs – 17,000 breaths a day….automatically.
Brain – 50,000 thoughts pass though each day, or 35-48 thoughts each minute.
Stomach – walls in the stomach lining produce an alkaline substance ever few milliseconds to neutralize acid. Otherwise, it would digest itself.
Eyes – Blink about 28,800 times each day to keep eyes clean and moist. 90% of the information we process is visual.
Body’s Energy – Expelled via heat. The body produces the same heat as 25 light bulbs over the course of a single day.
And that doesn’t include the workings of our skin, or hair, our voice or any other parts of our Body. This body, in which we live, is created by the Lord our God. The One who loves us. It is a love that knows no bounds. The love that is not fickle, is patient, kind, not jealous or boastful or rude and keeps no record of wrong doing. Love that does not lose faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance. (I Corinthians 13).
For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16.
This same God who loves us, this same God who sent His one and only Son, is the same Awesome God who led Abraham on a journey and protected Daniel in the lions’ den. He Is the same Awesome God who turned Jonah back to the people of Nineveh and the same Awesome God who raised His Son Jesus from the dead.
How can we not love Him with all our hearts and worship Him. This is the same God Who lives in Holiness. Holiness, from God’s perspective, is intimately connected to how we treat people. Holiness is rooted in relationship. This is a quote from Rebecca Manley Pippert’sbook – Out of the Salt Shaker and into the World. A relationship in holiness does not contain anger, gossip or critical judgement of others. If we were able to create a universe including snow flakes – each one a different design, Maybe, then we can judge others. Until then, judgement belongs only to our Lord God.
There is another miracle that our Lord God does for each of us. When we accept His Son Jesus, and Him only – He begins a DNA transplant of our hearts through the blood of His Son Jesus. We are not able to live a holy life without His Hand in our lives. We are not able to forgive others or ourselves for wrongs, yet our Lord God gives us strength to forgive.
Long ago, King David prayed a prayer that holds true for us even today. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Psalm 51:10. David knew it needed to be a new creation – a heart transplant, to have a heart free from sin.
Even so, when we come to Jesus, and worship only Him. We become a new creation in Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
The lyrics of the praise song, Sovereign (Chris Tomlin) reveals our response to our Awesome God. Sovereign in my greatest joy, Sovereign in my deepest cry, With me in the dark, with me at the dawn. In your everlasting arms, All the pieces of my life, From beginning to the end, I can trust you. In your never failing love, You work everything for good, God whatever comes my way, I will trust you.”

“Who is like you among the gods, O Lord— glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, performing great wonders? Exodus 15:11
Then Moses said to Aaron, “Announce this to the entire community of Israel: ‘Present yourselves before the Lord, for he has heard your complaining.’” And as Aaron spoke to the whole community of Israel, they looked out toward the wilderness. There they could see the awesome glory of the Lord in the cloud. Exodus 16:9-10
Then I said, “O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands, Nehemiah 1:5
Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth. He subdues the nations before us, putting our enemies beneath our feet. Psalm 47:1-3
