I grew up in era of radio.
My mind went into overdrive wondering/picturing the story as I
listened. Now, I don’t have to wonder, I
can see on television what is happening and inferences of what to expect. This makes my mind lazy. Now I find joy – not just rushing through the
reading of the Bible. I like to tie verses together and see how the Bible is
filled with the circles. Nothing is
inconsistent. Where as we have 70 years
plus to tie things together, God’s span of existence is like viewing the
rainbow – there is no end.

When I saw the relationship between Genesis 1:1 and John
1:1-4 recently, I could only imagine the Father and Son relationship as they
viewed the void and created the heavens and the earth and all its inhabitants
and us. For we are his workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk
in them. Ephesians 2:10. Words are important, and
our command to love God with all our heart, soul and mind is clear. We are also commanded to love our neighbor as
ourselves.

God was not alone during the Creation…His One and
Only Son is also there. John 1:1-4 – In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God. All
things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was
made. In him was life, and the life was the
light of men.

And God said…”Let there be light.” “Let there be an expanse separating the
waters.” “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together.”
“Let the earth sprout vegetation. ” “Let
there be lights in the expanse of the heavens.” Finally – Let US
make man in our own image.” God

Jesus is the
Word. He is the Light of the World (John 8:12), the Good Shepherd (John 10:11),
the Way and the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). Bread
of Life (6:33,35). Living Water (John
7:38). Jesus is the giver of peace. (John 14:7)

In this era of
chaos, din and constant noise, a verse, like this one, seems impossible. Joshua 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God. I
will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” If we cannot meditate on
this verse and know the meaning, we lose the value of meditating in silence on
the Words of God. We lose our way. We wonder why we cannot hear the voice of
God. Constant music, exciting movies,
and the sounds of ‘progress’ impede our growth in God.

In church
we often sang these words as a response to prayers, Habakkuk 2:20 – But the Lord is in his holy temple; let
all the earth keep silence before him.” Mother often wanted me to turn down the mellow tones of Frank
Sinatra on the radio as a teen. How
could she be so, so, ‘square’.

Years later, I
learned the value of silence and meditating on the Word and listening for the
voice of God. “Discerning the Voice of God”, a study by Priscilla Shirer, is
giving me the challenge I need to traverse the road that God has given me to
travel. Only through silence and
concentrating on verses at a time, I expect to hear the voice of God, I wait
patiently to hear, and plan to obey His Voice, and exercising faith and trust
to obey His voice. This is the first

In this stage
of life, I know there are decisions to make plus, difficult choices. Whatever euphoric
vision of old age has long dissipated.
My husband now resides in a home where no one has ‘yesterdays’ and my
vision of rocking together into heaven evaporated. Our children are beginning the stage of aches
and pains that show up in middle years. I
now understand and am counting more joys, as James 1:1-4 tells me. Count it all joy, my brothers, when
you meet trials of various kinds, for you know
that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And
let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and
complete, lacking in nothing.

How thankful I
am of these words – Ecclesiastes
3:11 – He has made everything
beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s
heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to
the end.

I have come and
I have seen the joy of God preparing me to see eternity before I was born, and
in you, if you Come, You will See…how glorious Our Savior Jesus Christ who came
to make us understand and know how to prepare us to live with Him. He is Able.

Joshua 1:8-9 –
This Book of the Law
shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and
night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good
success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong
and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for
the Lord your God is
with you wherever you go.”

This is my
blessing knowing that I belong to Jesus.
Now I look forward to being ‘at Home’ with the Lord and I can only imagine. Recently, someone
dear to me, reminded me of these lyrics:

I can only imagine, / What my eyes would see, /When your face, is before me, / I can only imagine… To be surrounded by your glory
What will my heart feel / Will I dance for you Jesus / Or In awe of you be still / Will I stand in your presence / To my knees will I fall / Will I sing
hallelujah / Will I be able to speak at all / I can only imagine.
