October 31, 2016 – Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. The world and all its people belong to Him. Psalm 24:1This may come as a shock to those who count their billions and purchase acre after acre of God’s Land. A shock to those who expend the lives God created to purchase, with their blood, the countries of this world that belong to the Lord God, to no avail. When I wonder about the ‘why’ of life, I return to the first words of the Bible…In the beginning God…! The Unchanging, Steadfast God created, made from nothing, the heavens and the earth. This tells me Who has the power and the authority over what is created, including me.The world and the people are His. This may be news to those who swallowed the culture-thinking of the self-made man who pulls himself up by his bootstraps. God is never absent from our sides – our hearts – and our minds. Even the man who defies the power of God, has eternity planted within him for he was chosen to be redeemed. In the brevity of three verses, this Psalm tells who, what and the how of earth. The earth’s is built on the foundation on the seas. This earth, we think of as a forever place, where we stand, is built on the sea. God asked questions of Job after asking: “Do you still want to argue with the Almighty? You are God’s critic, but do you have the answers?” Job 40:2. We can learn from Job’s answer: “I am nothing —how could I ever find the answers? I will cover my mouth with my hand. I have said too much already. I have nothing more to say.” Job 40:3-5O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them. Psalm 40:5. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5For he laid the earth’s foundation on the seas and built it on the ocean depths. Who may climb the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? Psalm 24:2-3
