Trust and Obey!
Trust
and Obey, page 170, in the 1933 Brown
Favorite Hymns, and we sang all five verses. Although the lyrics had sweet
words, I didn’t have a concept of the meaning to trust. I knew this word had a meaning for a person who loves
Jesus. To me, it had no true meaning for
a long time.
The word, Trust, has rays of light and
finally penetrates my heart. Trust is a leap of faith. Trust is believing He
IS. Trust is love in action. Trust is assurance
and confidence. Trust is conviction.
Trust is Hope. Trust is living in
expectation!

Trust is giving up control of my life
and obeying the One Who gave His life for me. Trusting Jesus is knowing He will
never betray me, for He is faithful. Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.
Psalm 36:5

Psalm 36:5
A wise man once told me, if I don’t
trust Jesus, who, then, will I trust? Who indeed?

Listen for the testimonies of faith and
trust spoken, sung, or in the actions of His Children. These testimonies
glorify God and the One and Only Son of God and His Amazing Grace. Jesus makes
a way, even when we only see doom.

Coming to trust our Lord Jesus, is
walking in His Light. We learn moment by
moment, this is so, through a lifetime.
To trust Jesus is not a challenge or an item on the to-do-list. Trust is God’s gift, making our paths filled
with light – one step at a time.

How did this song come to be? One night
at a Dwight L. Moody evangelistic meeting in Brockton, Massachusetts, a young
man stood and testified. “I am not quite sure about salvation, but I’m going to
trust and I am going to obey.” The song
leader, Daniel Towner, wrote down these words and sent to his friend, John Sammis
(1846-1919). The young man’s words, Trusting God for salvation and Obeying God’s
became a familiar hymn. Soon John wrote,
Trust and obey for there is no other way
– To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and
obey. John Sammis sent his five stanzas and chorus, written in 1887, to
Daniel Towner and it became the hymn still sung today.

Trust
and Obey is a life’s theme, for those who know and love God and His Son,
Jesus. We often want to ‘fix things’ for ourselves and others. But often, things
are beyond our power and God-given ability.
It is then we know God is the only answer.

One day, after repeated calls to my little
brother went unanswered, I learned that he had left the assisted living
facility and was driving with his wife across the country despite the beginnings
of Alzheimer’s. I felt hopeless, unable
to talk to him. I began pacing and praying for his safety and care. Finally, I prayed. Dear Lord, I can’t help my little brother. Only you know where he and his wife are. I am trust you to keep my brother safe as he
travels. I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

I finished praying and a beautiful
peace filled my being. It was like
nothing I had ever experienced. I
trusted God. From that moment on a His peace

Love.

This Peace stays with me from that
moment on and through his death and burial and continues, because God is Able. Even
today, I can hear his voice and laughter. I found a letter from my mother, dated 1979,
telling me how my brother went to church, and asked to preach without any
preparation. He adlibbed his way through
life. When he saw someone in need, he
met the need as God led him.

One of the activities my brother
enjoyed was singing hymns about Jesus and His Love. My brother trusted in
salvation and obeyed God’s leading. This was his life’s theme…Trust and Obey.

The last verse of this song is this…
Then
in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet,
in fellowship sweet, we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we
will go.
will go.
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Romans 8:37-39 – No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours
through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that
nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about
tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the
earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us
from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 4:15-17 – All who declare that Jesus is
the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. We know how much God
loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is
love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows
more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face
him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.

Hebrews 10:22-24 – Let us go right into the
presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty
consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our
bodies have been washed with pure water.

Psalm
26:6-8 – Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for
mercy. The Lord is my strength and
shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is
filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.
The Lord gives his people strength. He is a safe fortress for
his anointed king.

Psalm 9:9-11 The Lord is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of
trouble. Those who know your name
trust in you, for you, O Lord, do not abandon those who
search for you. Sing praises to the Lord who reigns in Jerusalem. Tell the world about his unforgettable deeds.
