God’s Faithfulness

What does God’s faithfulness look like?   One summer day in1946, I swam lazily in the swimming pool at the park. I noticed Dad and Mother walking toward the pool.  The lifeguard asked, “Do your parents always hold hands?”  I answered, “Yes.” Then embarrassed,  I realized this outward behavior could not be considered normal at that age.  Fast forward another thirty-two years, my parents celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary and their love grew through the years.  They celebrated fifty years of faithfulness from before they both said, “I do!”
Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens. Psalm 89:2. This speaks of the faithfulness of our Lord lasting beyond time as enduring as the heavens. It is impossible to count the years and the ways our Father God is faithful.  The joys He gives each passing generation through an unnumbered count of earth’s families is immeasurable.
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24.  Mother loved to read Psalm 37 over and over.  This is one of her favorite Psalms providing strength as she lived day by day.
As God created the universe, the world, and His children, He declared His faithfulness to watch over us in many ways. This faithfulness began long before we are born when He chose us to be His.
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to the end.  Ecclesiastes 3:11. God gave us our first gift by planting eternity in our hearts before we were born.  And we long for Home in Heaven with our Lord.  I learned how precious this gift of eternity within us is as the Dementia afflicting my husband deepened.  When things became more confused for him, he only spoke of going Home.  He knew things would be right for him there.
Our Father God’s great love is like a rainbow encompassing all the passing of time.  He plans, He waits, He sent His Son. Jesus to make our way to our Home in Heaven.  Jesus died once and for all as a sacrifice for our sin.  This God who was, is, and always will be, awaits our acceptance of His Love to make us His, forever and forgiven.  He sees us through the cleansing blood of Jesus.  When we say, “I do!” to our Lord, and follow Him, our new life begins.
What is this faithfulness?  It includes unfailing love, faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds, righteousness like mighty mountains, and justice like the depths of the ocean. (Psalm 36:5-7).  We find shelter in the shadow of His wings.
God’s Language is Love – He commands we love our Father in Heaven and others.  When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we are accepting a peaceful life filled with joy, because we trust in our Lord.  He will never let us down. There is no equal on earth to our Lord.
Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.  Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.  Psalm 40:4-5.
Kindness, Love, Patience, Gentleness, and Mercy belong in His Love Language.  Others will know we belong to our Father in Heaven when our actions mirror our Lord.  Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.  Colossians 3:12-13.
Then comes the time when we wonder how we can go on in this world. The world becomes more and more difficult to live in.  Our strength leaves and we become old and weary.  How can we continue?
This is when we renew our hearts in His Word and trust Him and we reach for others who need the Lord.  Then all we can say is, Thank You, to our Father in Heaven.
Mom’s favorite way of praising God was singing the Doxology throughout her day. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. Colossians 3:14-15.
It is difficult to have a bad day when you praise God for everything!  Each happening glistens like a diamond when we study it from different perspectives.
Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.  He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.  Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.  But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:28-31
