April 25, 2016 – Isaiah 55:2-3

Isaiah55-2-3Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love I promised to David. Isaiah 55:2-3Who is this Isaiah? A prophet, his writing is considered is considered one of the greatest books in the Old Testament.  It is a collection of oracles, prophecies and reports whose common theme is the message of salvation. He prophesied during the the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah.  What does this have to do with us?In these verses here, extend the salvation to all mankind – to all Gentiles. It seems odd to hear – Listen to me and you will eat what is good.  I shudder to think of all the things God abhors and is not good, that I have ‘eaten’ through radio and television through the years.  Just that extra voice in my mind and I became addicted to that which advocates more.During my ‘naive stage’ I wondered why there couldn’t be more good news.  The world doesn’t consider good news as news worthy of printing/broadcasting.  Only bad news. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified,  but the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.  The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!  Luke 2:9-11Isaiah writes — SEEK the Lord.  Not the latest movie of hate, lust, jealousy – all of these lead to killing the soul.  What are we to do?  Call on the Lord now, while he is near, turn to the Lord for He will forgive generously.  Eat of the fruit of the spirit: Love Joy Peace Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self-Control!  Galatians 5:22-23.Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near. Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong. Let them turn to the Lord that he may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for he will forgive generously. Isaiah 55:6-7
