May 12, 2020 – Matthew 5:7-9

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:7-9.

The Beatitudes are stepping stones to living a contented life in the Lord Jesus Christ. 

Without Mercy from Jesus, we would not have mercy.  Jesus taught His Disciples to forgive:  and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.  Matthew 6:12. (The Lord’s Prayer)

We are taught to live righteously, to be holy.  Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:12-13.

The promises are precious.  We will be forgiven and we will see God. And as peacemakers we will be called sons of God.

When others persecute us and say evil about us because of Jesus, we have cause to rejoice and be glad.  For great is our reward in heaven.

An old hymn (Frank E Graeff)  brings assurance,  Does Jesus Care?  Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares His heart is touched with my grief; When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, I know my Savior cares. 

 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you,  casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you. I Peter 5:6-7.  

Blessed are you when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you. Matthew 5:11-12
