September 12, 2019 – Psalm 51:10-12

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.  Psalm 51:10-12.

 I think of a young girl of eight walking down the aisle of the church to give her life to Jesus.  And then on Easter Sunday, the minister baptized her.  She felt so light and heart-clean.  In the eighty-two years since then she has often remembered this moment.  The one thing she  learned is without His guidance and continual learning she cannot maintain that first moment of clean-heartedness.  

This Psalm is attributed to King David as he confessed his sin and guilt to our Lord God. Acts 13:22-23, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’  Of this man’s offspring God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as He promised.  

Do our choices in life matter? Yes!  We are accountable to God.  For what we choose to do each day passes on to the next generation and the generations that follow.  Even as God’s faithfulness endures to all generations.  Parents teach their children and children teach theirs. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and His might, and the wonders that He has done.  Psalm 78:4.

What is bloodguiltiness?  Taking the life of another person.  Yes, David did this and confessed. Each person is created by God in His Image.  Confess, and praise God.

Create in me a clean heart, So I may worship Thee!

Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. Psalm 51:14-15.
