May 6, 2019 – John 13:33-34

Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. John 13:33-34.

How often we remember being little children.  How beautiful that Jesus sees us as Little Children. Such comfort and joy are in these words.

Why are we commanded to love one another? It isn’t a suggestion, it is a command Jesus gave us, to love one another.  Our professions of love are many and often fleeting.  There is no way we can measure the quantity of love.  You either love or you don’t love.  It shows in our attitude, in our words, in our actions and in our thoughts.

Love is the subject of many songs and poems. Love can be given in words, but our actions  of thoughtfulness speak the loudest.  Gifts of chocolates and roses disappear, and God’s love remains forever. 

God’s love protects and guides us for an eternity.  To love as Jesus loves with forgiveness, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, patience, faithfulness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23),  tells us, God loves with abandon. God showed us how much He loves us.

When we love others as Jesus loves us, others know we belong to Jesus.  How much does God love us?  “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16.

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is LOVE.”  I Corinthians 13:13

“By this, all people will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another.” John 13:35.
