April 8, 2019 – Exodus 14:11-12

Then they said to Moses, “Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? Is this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’?  For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.”  Exodus 14:11-12.

Freedom without Trust brings an undercurrent of fear of the unknown.  Shackled to the known and predictable is more comfortable.  The Children of Israel would rather be enslaved to the Pharaoh of Egypt and certain death, than to be freed for an unknown life.  

Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid!”  The people probably thought what you think when someone tells you, “Don’t be afraid!”  The difference between the Children of Israel and Moses is, he knew God and trusted Him.  

The Egyptian soldiers who are coming, you shall see no more.  Isaiah 43:16, “I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea.”  

If God is for us, who can ever be against us?  Romans 8:31b.  What were the thoughts of the people as they saw a way through the sea God provided? When we are in the middle of a crisis in our lives, do we panic or pray and praise God for His guidance? Stand still and see God’s salvation!
