March 28, 2019 – Matthew 15:18-20
But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands will never defile you.” Matthew 15:18-20.
The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking; the mouth of the wicked overflows with evil words. Proverbs 15:28. All of the evil listed in the verses above are the boundaries for living with and for God in this world. The Ten Commandments given to the Children of Israel from God Himself on Mount Sinai are included.
Often a mother asks, “Did you wash your hands?” Instead of outward cleanliness, a mother who teaches her child to pray, “Create in me a clean heart!” gives her child the pathway to a clean heart.
Praying for God’s presence every moment of our lives, at home or out of the home, builds a fortress against evil. The Comforter, the Holy Spirit, teaches us His ways.
Flee from evil. James 4:7-8. So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. The Voice Version of the Bible says, Wash your hands; you have dirtied them in sin.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29.
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10-11.
