February 1, 2019 – Psalm 1:1-2

Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. Psalm 1:1-2.

The secret of our Joy is delighting in the law of the Lord.  God’s Word gives us sustenance and speaks to every need we encounter.  Nuggets of wisdom and direction are hidden in His Word.

This Psalm warms my heart, as I gaze out on a snowy landscape and temperatures below freezing.  Then I remember the fruit of every season and know, this is my season of reflection.  God gives us time to reflect on His Word, not on the latest movie on Netflix or video game!

Even  seasons change in weather, the seasons of life change, too.  These seasons come in  various stages, some more startling than others. Old age and sickness wake us up to ‘in-between’ living. That is when the way we serve God changes.  This is when we learn to delight in the Lord, trust in Him, and the changes create humility.

Job 22:24-27  are the words spoken to Job. “If you give up your lust for money and throw your precious gold into the river, the Almighty himself will be your treasure. He will be your precious silver!  Then you will take delight in the Almighty and look up to God. You will pray to Him, and He will hear you, and you will fulfill your vows to Him.”

Delight goes both ways, beginning when we understand, The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Psalm 37:23.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. Psalm 1:1:3.
