January 16, 2019 – Psalm 18:1-2

I love you, Lord; You are my strength. The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Savior; my God is my Rock, in whom I find Protection. He is my Shield, the Power that saves me, and my place of safety. Psalm 18:1-2.

Who authored this heart-felt Psalm of Praise?  King David, the Man after God’s own Heart  wrote fifty-one verses of praise to our Lord God.  He poured out His heart, and these fifty-one verses can also be found in 2 Samuel 22.

David knew God as his salvation from King Saul, and the enemies of Israel. There were enemies without, and David also found enemies within his own heart.  He tried to do what was right in God’s eyes.  David said in verse forty-four – You gave me victory over my accusers. You preserved me as the ruler over nations; people I don’t even know, now serve me.

Joel 2:32a tells us – But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.  This verse is repeated in Romans 10:12-13 – Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him.  For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”   And again in 1 Corinthians 6:11, we read – But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Praying today, and always, from Psalm 86:2-4.  Protect me, for I am devoted to you. Save me, for I serve you and trust you. You are my God. Be merciful to me, O Lord,  for I am calling on you constantly.  Give me happiness, O Lord, for I give myself to you.

I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and He saved me from my enemies. Psalm 18:3.
