November 13, 2018 – Galatians 3:8-9
What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith. Galatians 3:8-9.
Is faith in God necessary? Abraham is listed in the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11:8-9) It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going. Faith is believing and trusting what God says is true.
God promised Abraham as many children as the stars in the sky and sand on seashore. Abraham had no children. He and Sarah were beyond child-bearing age. Believing took a great deal of faith and lots of waiting. Romans 4:11b tells us – They are counted as righteous because of their faith.
Truth today is often difficult to determine. Abraham couldn’t look to others and join with them. Rather he believed God, and he trusted. He and Sarah went on a long journey alone. There were no maps, no McDonald’s along the way. No ‘You Are Here!’ signs when Abraham arrived.
Now, through Jesus Christ, we are children of Abraham through our faith in God, in our journey through this life.
But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under his curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.” So it is clear that no one can be made right with God by trying to keep the law. For the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.” Galatians 3:10-11.
