October 5, 2018 – John 12:35:36

Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” John 12:35-36a.

What is it like to walk in utter darkness? No one really knows in this day and age, unless the power goes out. Our strategy is keep power moving, even with generators.  In 2009, during the ice storm in January, our electricity quit working. For three days we watched the temperature drop and added more layers of clothing.  

The hot water heater worked, yet instant soup or coffee did not satisfy.  Have you ever wondered what life is like when God’s love is not reflected in those around us? How terrifying life is when all we depended on is taken away.  The next step  or decision is not clear to us. 

John 8:12 – Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”    

Our time on earth is brief.  The question for each of us, do we believe?  Do we trust the Giver of Life? Or will we turn away?

After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them. But despite all the miraculous signs Jesus had done, most of the people still did not believe in him. John 12:35-36b.
