May 23, 2018 – Proverbs 8:10-11
Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold. For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can compare with it. Proverbs 8:10-11.
There is that word again, “Choose!” We begin choosing at a very young age. Weighing the benefits of one choice over another — in food, friends, and clothes from a young age.
We watch our parents and listen from a young age. We choose our words and actions to make a greater impact on others. God knows what is in your heart and mine. We cannot choose one vocabulary around good people and a different vocabulary around others. We choose who we will follow and emulate. Matthew 12:34b-35 – For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.
Every person desires wisdom, but whose wisdom do we choose? There is the wisdom of the world and the wisdom of Christ Jesus. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. I Corinthians 1:24.
We want the best kind of wisdom, authentic wisdom. There is only one place to find wisdom. James 1:5-6 says, If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
“I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.” Proverbs 8:12-13.
