April 25, 2018 – Revelation 21:1-3

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.” Revelation 21:1-3.

Not long ago, my man-made washing machine refused to spin excess water from loads of clothes. Before long, I had new washing machine that will work.  The things on earth soon refuse to work.  As I read this scripture, I marveled at the things John was shown.  A time when the new Jerusalem comes down from God out of Heaven, and He lives among His people.

What will that mean?  God himself will wipe every tear from our eyes.  No more death or sorrow or crying or pain.  When God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day, death was vanquished forever more for those who believe in Jesus.

No more ‘what-ifs’ of life, just the assurance from the fear of death.  The words, Look, I am making everything new, resonates with me.  Every Spring I praise God for each new leaf and flower signifying to me the utter loveliness of this promise from our Lord, when we are made new creatures in Christ. No leaves will fall from the trees, there will be no decay or mourning for what was.  After each rain, I look for the rainbow in the sky, and rejoice in the scent of the earth, freshly washed.

Then John was told, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true!” No lies or half-lies in Heaven, simply Truth. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:4-5.
