Psalm 9, 2018 – Psalm 37:34

Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path.
He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. Psalm 37:34.

Travel steadily. How often  the mundane fills our lives in a steady stream day after day. We feel as if we are never reaching our goals in life in leaps and bounds. As the neighbor girl said to me, as I placed onions plants into the rich Oklahoma dirt, “You keep on, keepin’ on!”  Did she have to point it out?  My heart was not in this tedious mundane work.

Later I learned a scripture that changed my mind about the tasks before me. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.  Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. Colossians 3:23-24.

Perhaps this is the meaning of Living in the Moment – with Jesus?  Recently I met a woman who exemplifies this moment. She cleaned room after room in the nursing home where my husband lived in his last months.  This lady came early to her job so she could have time to visit and get to know the residents, whose rooms she cleaned.

Two other verses in this chapter were my Mother’s favorite, and my prayer… Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord,
and He will give you your heart’s desires. Psalm 37:3-4.

The last snow of winter – that beautifies our land today comes directly from God’s storehouse! Let us rejoice in it.

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. Psalm 37:23-24.
