March 9, 2018 – Isaiah 42:1-4

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.   A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.” Isaiah 42:1-4.

Who is Isaiah? What did his name mean?  How did Isaiah know about Jesus?  Isaiah lived 700 years before Jesus. He wrote many prophecies about Jesus.  The name, Isaiah, means Yahweh is salvation. Isaiah is often called the fifth Gospel, as he mentions the coming of the Messiah so often.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17

In verses five and six, Isaiah tells us Who God is and His Actions! God, the Lord, created the heavens and stretched them out.  He created the earth and everything in it.

The tenth verse of Isaiah 42, is a new song, “Sing a new song to the Lord! Sing his praises from the ends of the earth! Sing, all you who sail the seas, all you who live in distant coastlands.”  

Does Jesus care? Indeed! Sing for joy, O heavens! Rejoice, O earth!
Burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted his people and will have compassion on them in their suffering. Isaiah 49:13.
