March 26, 2015 – Isaiah 53:6

Isaiah53-6We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6We insist on having our own way and we insist on going astray.  Just as this lamb, looking so innocent, but stubbornly goes his way — are we.  The man who coined the word ‘sheeple’ describes this human trait well.  We stomp our feet in rebellion when things don’t go our way from the time we are a child.  The only change as we grow is the method of ‘stomping feet’.Almighty God wants to give his created beings a way out from following their own way and He laid the iniquity of wrong-headedness of us all on Jesus. Jesus left His Home and came down to earth, rejected and reviled, to die on the cross to take away our sins.  When He was raised from the dead, He was victorious over death, and led the way of right-living for each of us.  Because of Jesus, we can be counted righteous.  Jesus interceded for ‘stomping’ rebels.  He exposed himself to death, shame and revulsion many times over for who?  For us.When Jesus sees us, every lost sheep one of us, come to Him, He knows that His death and resurrection was worth it.  He accomplishes his purpose and He is satisfied. When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels. Isaiah 53:11-12
