September 14, 2017 – Psalm 16:6-7

Psalm 16:6-7 – The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! I will bless the Lord who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.

The Inheritance!  An inheritance can be many things. An inheritance from the father was  important in the Old Testament.  It still is important.

I remember when my own Dad talked to me seriously…I don’t have any money to give you, but my inheritance I give you is my good name.  This is enough.  He left me a legacy of kindnesses, truth, honor, and loving others.

Mother wrote a book, “The Lines are Fallen”, about the legacy/inheritance of faith of her family.  The most important inheritance is our faith in God we give our children and our children’s children. It is the way we live each day that makes the difference!  Our children see…and remember. Each day is another chapter in the legacy we leave to them.

What does the New Testament say about inheritance? Which one touches you?

Colossians 1:11-12 – We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light.

Ephesians 1:14 – The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

Ephesians 1:11 – Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

Psalm 16:8 I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
