September 4, 2017 – John 1:29

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! John 1:29.

Behold, Look, Pay Attention, This is important, take notes.  Neon Lights and many words are used to gain our attention to vital happenings in our lives.  John uses just one word, “Behold!” to introduce Jesus, the Lamb of God, to the world.

Then quickly, in a few words, John tells us why he is calling our attention to this Man, the Lamb of God.  He takes away our sins.

John continues…Jesus is before me…Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.  He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.  Everything was created through him and for him. Colossians 1:15-16.

John’s purpose in life is to introduce Jesus and tell us who He is!  We each have a purpose in God’s Kingdom.  Following Christ, as a new creature, belonging to Him is not always easy – but it is an eternal decision, that gives us strength and peace to live in this world.  It changes us when we learn to love and see others as Jesus sees all of us on earth.

I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:1-3.

This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’  I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” John 1:30-31.
