August 9, 2017 – John 12:35-36

Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” John 12: 35-36.

So many reminders of the blessing of light.  Early this morning, I opened the drapes and moonlight poured into the window.  The beautiful stream of light  seemed as bright as daylight.  God makes beautiful things all around us.

John 8:12 – Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

Read the first scripture again…Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.  What do you trust?  Whom can you trust?  At every turn we find things in this world are not trustworthy –  We are always on guard – alert to the looming bottom line and the small print.  We lay our heads on a ‘pillows of caution’ at night causing sleeplessness.

How can we escape this tenuous existence?  Trusting Jesus is trusting God who sent Him.  When we see Jesus, we see God.  Jesus is the Light, shining in the dark world.  We can trust Him and escape world thinking.  The world says, ‘Follow the money!’  Jesus says, ‘Follow the Light!’  Each of us make the choice by how we live and how we love ,and who we follow.

Jesus shouted to the crowds, “If you trust me, you are trusting not only me, but also God who sent me. For when you see me, you are seeing the one who sent me. I have come as a light to shine in this dark world, so that all who put their trust in me will no longer remain in the dark.” John 12:44-46
