August 7, 2017 – Psalm 28:3-4

Sing a new song of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy. For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. Psalm 28:3-4.

A new song is useless unless it is sung.  A song of praise comes from the heart and gives us joy.  Play skillfully.  I remember the hours at the piano playing skills and Hannon exercises when I read — play skillfully on the harp.  A song is more than accurate notes played or sung, or the praise lyrics.  A praise song begins in the heart of the musician and the believer –  praising our Lord God.

When we play and sing music to our Lord, our hearts belong to Him.  And the Word of the Lord is true. We can trust Him.  Our song of praise lacks accuracy when we worship more than Jesus.  A divided heart, praising more than Jesus, causes disharmony in our life of worship. It isn’t ever Jesus and… it is just Jesus.  John 14:6

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8 –  Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.

Every time we see the sun come up, the stars shine, the seasons change, the rain or snow fall, a great harvest in the fall, or produce in the garden, or a new baby born, we see the unfailing love of Jesus Christ. This kind of love brings hope.  His kind of love we can trust with our lives.

I can still hear my Mom singing, Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!

He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. Psalm 28:5.
