June 28, 2017 – Psalm 25:14-15

The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant. My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies. Psalm 25:14-15

We are easily swayed. It is who we follow that makes the difference. Who are we looking up to, whom do we trust? Who do we allow to shape our minds?  The current favorite band, or singer, or ball player?

When we come to our last breath in this world, Who gives us Hope?  Our Lord God Who never disappoints.  When our eyes stay on Him, He is our friend. He rescues us from the traps that surround us, including the traps we set for ourselves.

As a young mother, I prepared breakfast for my three young boys.  Midway into the preparation I checked on our three sons, sitting at the table quietly, watching my every move.  A deep weight of responsibility fell on me.  Their physical care was in my hands. Now I know, too, how much more my example of spiritual living and teaching was also my responsibility, to keep our eyes on Jesus.

Day by day, moment by moment, we teach by the words we say, the things we choose to do. How many times the spiritual strength of my parents and grandparents is now my example.  The things I learned from them always pointed to Jesus, the truth and the way. Integrity and honesty protect me. Dad told me once, “I can’t give you lots of money as your inheritance, but I can give you my good name.”  Jesus gives us much more, He gives life and a future – for an eternity!

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. Ephesians 4:3-4

May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you. Psalm 25:21
