The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens; by his knowledge the deeps broke open, and the clouds drop down the dew. My son, do not lose sight of these— keep sound wisdom and discretion, and they will be life for your soul and adornment for your neck. Proverbs 3:19-22What good is wisdom? It is without equal in the Lord. Priceless. It is Life for our soul and adornment for our neck. Dictionary.com says —knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; sagacity, discernment, or insight. Couple that definition with references to Jesus — I am the truth, the life and the way. And we understand the admonition — “My son (or daughter), do not lose sight of these – keep sound judgement or discretion.” How do we know we ‘have’ wisdom? By reading the Words of God, the one who possesses the wisdom to create our world. By choosing His pathway for living our lives. By living His Words. It isn’t changing our hair color to gray, but changing our lives to follow the One who creates Life everlasting. Our Wise Father is Love and His Love is the shield from fear. When I am afraid of the sounds in the night or try to protect myself from rejection, persecution and hate, I remember this brief verse, “Perfect love casts out fear.” Wisdom and Love walk hand in hand and we gain honor and understanding in all facets of our lives. And this brings us to the question, how do we love? Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends…So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Corinthians 13:4-8, 13Dear Lord, I trust in your love and wisdom. I rest in your unfailing grace. I draw strength from your steadfast faith. May your love protect me and your wisdom light my way. I love you, Lord, and I lift my eyes to worship you, Oh my Lord! I am yours. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Then you will walk on your way securely and your foot will not stumble. If you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet… The wise will inherit honor, but fools get disgrace. Proverbs 3:23-24, 35
