April 5, 2017 – Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2
This means anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. 2 Corinthians 5:17-18
We talk often about turning over a new leaf in our lives. We want to be new and have a ‘makeover’ – but the true makeover isn’t something we buy or do in 10 easy steps. This newness in our lives is given to us when we surrender to God and accept His Son, Jesus. We give the control of our lives to our Creator and live for Him in all things.
The ruthless evaluation determining our need for a ‘new me’ is not by world’s standards. The ‘new me’ doesn’t need a new facial, a killer exercise regime at the gym or new furniture for our house. We evaluate ourselves by the faith God gives us. Do we love God with all our hearts and all our minds? Do we love others more than ourselves?
So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know Him now! 2 Corinthians 5:16
Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. Romans 12:3
