March 7, 2017 – Psalm 141:3

Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.  Psalm 141:3

How many times have you come away from a conversation, or speaking your mind, wishing we would have said….?

I have, often!  I become so intent with my own thoughts, and forget the third Person listening in.  We forget the God- Perspective and the tenderness of the person(s) we have been giving the ‘benefit’ of our ‘wisdom’.  We become a ‘blurt mouth’.

When we see a conversation lagging…adding words, that may hurt, maim, or injure a spirit.  We can’t seem to help it.  We have no control…and need to be controlled.  Who can we turn to help us control our thoughtless words?

The tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And among all the parts of the body, the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. James 4:5b-6a

Being evil or performing acts of wickedness is unthinkable.  Satan doesn’t mind waiting. He covers evil with ‘a little won’t hurt’ or with humor.  Soon we are addicted and want more….this is drifting, a spiraling downward.  There is no way we can drift toward God, but when we give God the control over our tongues and our lives, we build our lives to reach the high standards God sets.

It takes brothers and sisters in Christ to encourage, guide, and lead us.  Our family used to go to a small hill in Oklahoma and climb.  Mom was not feeling well, so we three kids used to help Mom get to the top of the hill.  We all celebrated when we reached the top.  Our goal is righteousness in Christ Jesus.  We climb to the pinnacle of Heaven when we give our control to God, and glorify Him.  Moment by Moment we surrender our will and desires to our Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed is His Name.

Don’t let me drift toward evil or take part in acts of wickedness. Don’t let me share in the delicacies of those who do wrong.  Psalm 141:4
