Matthew11-29Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:29-30When I grew up, Sunday afternoon was for naps.  I could not understand when I was 10 years old why I had to take a nap!  I was not tired.  As time goes on, the idea of a Sunday afternoon rest/nap sounds delightful.Life is hard – Life is not fair – You will learn, it is an uphill road to get along in this world.  You must work hard.  You must be responsible.  Those words echo from one end of the world to the other.  That is it!  The world is a hard task master.  Adam learned that when he was cast from the garden for not recognizing God for Who He is and life became difficult. But wait, there is rest.  Even if we are weighed down with work and cares, there is rest coming.  Even when there seems to be no end to a hard time.  Even then.  Who is Jesus?  He is the One who will give us rest!  A ‘forever’ rest.  Was it easy for God to create the world?  Did he think it was labor? I love the last part of this verse — ...just as God did (rest) after creating the world….His yoke is easy.  He is humble and gentle of heart and He is Love.  Praise God….Jesus loves me this I know….So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.  For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.  Hebrews 4:9-10
