Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, Psalm 91:3-5When a child finds a feather, what is in his mind? Surely not that the feather covers anyone. Even a plural number of feathers are not enough to cover anyone. And attached to a a set of wings? No and No.But wait, under the wings of God? The one who created us and loves us more than ever seems possible. What then? A refuge under wings? What do you see in that word picture? I see tenderness, ultimate softness of love, a cozy hide-a-way. It may not give us safety from a beating, a bullet, or a knife, or hate. The refuge is knowing that God loves us, and ultimately our spirits are protected.When I was young I read a book, The Triumph of John and Betty Stam by Mrs. Howard Taylor. These two missionaries stood in front of a firing squad, and when they proclaimed Jesus as their Savior, they were felled by bullets. This testimony written in 129 pages, made me wonder, if death faced me, would my faith in God be strong enough to withstand that kind of question and be a lasting witness for Jesus my Lord?Yes, Yes, Yes. Every time I taste the fruitless deeds of darkness, I ask for His forgiveness. My prayer always is, that my life consists of the fruit of light — all goodness, righteousness and truth.
